*The County utilizes Digital PhotoManager by DataWorks Plus to manage mugshots of inmates. Every single police department in the County also has access to the program. It has facial recognition capabilities, but it is unclear if any agency is actively using that feature. The CPC will continue to investigate.

Details

According to a response to a California Public Records Act requests submitted by the CPC, the Palo Alto Police Department claims to not currently employ facial recognition surveillance technology. Their response to a second request asking to disclose whether or not they have used it in the past is still pending. A response is expected in the coming days.
